Green Santa's Wishlist

I know the holidays are the most wonderful time of year. But they're also the most wasteful. Here are a few ways to keep it green:

  • 1. Re-think the wrap.
  • Gift wrap is often made with virgin paper and toxic inks. Bad for our trees, air & water. Get creative with reusable sacks, ribbons, old swatches of fabric...and if you must wrap, buy only those with recycled fibers & earth-friendly inks.
  • 2. Shop local.
  • It not only keeps your town healthy, it saves energy. (Walk there and don't forget your own totes!)
  • 3. Don't touch that dial!
  • Before you crank up the thermostat, grab a sweater and slippers. It'll save money and energy!

Greenius of the Week

Sarah, age 22, Mount Pleasant says:
When i'm on campus or in town and someone is handing out fliers, i check out what they are offering but do not take the flier. this helps cut down on my trash and leaves more fliers for them to hand out instead of having to print more.

Kayli, age 8, Monroe says:
Wear two layers of shirts to cut down on the use of heat in your house!

Katharine, age 9, summit says:
Use reusable water bottles because the fumes that float out of the factorys that make them are causing global warming, too, and if people use less, they work for a shorter time, and less fumes float through the atmosphere.
